    About Me

    Teacher - Tutor - Artist

    Lin's Story

I spent my childhood in Concord, Massachusetts where I was allowed to freely explore the woods that edged our backyard. The four seasons with their ebb and flow of subtle sounds, earthy scents, and natural light offered inspiration.

    A First Foil Art Attempt

    "Rain"

As an adult, through many years of working with very young children, I observed their universal love of painting as well as their confidence with this medium. I eventually learned to trust my own innate visual sensibilities and recreate images of nature from my childhood through foil art.

My favorite part of this kind of art process is all the surprises. Much of the creative experience with this medium is letting my unconscious play with colors, shapes, textures, and position to portray a certain emotion or memory about an experience or a place that I may have visited long ago. Then there's what other people see in the abstracts that are also surprising and refreshing and revealing. When I hear from friends, they often say something about their life that I never knew. From strangers, it's usually something personal and meaningful to their history.

I do this art medium with young children, and it puts us on an "even playing field". They seem to love the equality of it! It involves play and trust in one's inner know-how. Hours go by without notice!
